Just a quick note to let you know that a couple of new titles on Ultra HD Blu-ray have surfaced out in the latest weeks. All of those are pending officiel press releases but seem pretty solid.
Lionsgate will release Now You See Me on May 31st.
Warner will release Point Break on Ultra HD Blu-ray, it seems with Dolby Atmos but I will wait to see the disc to confirm that, on May 17th.
Finally, the 20th Century Fox should be releasing the new anniversary edition of Independence Day on Ultra HD Blu-ray on June 7th. According to Italian sources, it seems that the movie will be released with a DTS:X soundtrack, which would be a first for Fox.
I updated the list of Ultra HD Blu-rays on the site, and will keep you posted if any release date changes.
Lionsgate is still showing its strong support of immersive audio with the confirmation that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Blu-ray will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack when released on March 22nd.
There is also confirmation in the press release that a UltraHD Blu-ray version is on its way, but its official date have not been confirmed yet. I am going to assume this will also have Atmos on it .
If we believe pre-order information from Amazon Canada, two more UHD Blu-rays have been confirmed : Concussion from Sony Pictures and Hunger Games : Mockingjay Part 2.
I’ll update this post once there is a more official confirmation including if the titles will include immersive audio tracks.
Lionsgate stills support strongly DTS:X with a third release announced, this time it’s The Last Witch Hunter starring Vin Diesel. The movie will be released on February 2nd.
Update : It seems that Sicario will finally be offered with a Dolby Atmos Soundtrack, at least that’s what the press release says.
You can now add Sicario, from Canadian director Dennis Villeneuve, to the list. The movie will be released on January 5th and will feature a Dolby Atmos track on Blu-ray.
Lionsgate announced last week that the release of American Ultra on Blu-ray will feature a DTS:X soundtrack. The movie will be available from home theaters on November 24th and will become the second Blu-ray disc with DTS:X
Having said that, we must note that the latest news about DTS:X are saying that the format will not be released on AVRs before the beginning of next year or later. So it will not be possible to hear the movie at home in DTS:X for a while.
