We finally have a second studio joining Lionsgate for DTS:X audio tracks on Blu-ray. The Guillermo Del Toro movie Crimson Peak will be released on February 9th with a DTS:X soundtrack.
Lionsgate stills support strongly DTS:X with a third release announced, this time it’s The Last Witch Hunter starring Vin Diesel. The movie will be released on February 2nd.
According to its back cover, the Blu-ray release of the 5th season of Game of Thrones will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack when it is released on March 15th.
As already reported here, the first four seasons are getting new releases with Dolby Atmos, the first two have been released while seasons 3 and 4 are still pending an official street date.
Sony Pictures just announced their first UHD Blu-ray, that will be released in early 2016, with an official date not chosen yet.
The list of titles is : The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Salt, Hancock, Chappie, Pineapple Express and The Smurfs 2.
They also confirmed that a lot of titles will also support immersive audio, which is a good sign coming from Sony who just started to support Dolby Atmos.
The animal documentary Enchanted Kingdom, which was already available in Dolby Atmos from Japan has now been released in North America with the immersive track.
It’s really a good example of what the format can bring to documentary movies.
One of The Kino Classics collection release of this month on Blu-ray, called The Mask, will feature as an added bonus the 3D animated short One Night In Hell which offers a Dolby Atmos soundtrack with music under the supervision of Queen’s Brian May.
I really like the idea of this inclusion on the disc and the fact that it is presented as an highlight of the release. This continues to show strong support for the format even from smaller studios as Dolby Atmos continue to take more place in the home theater industry.
It’s hard to deny the fact that Dolby Atmos releases on Blu-ray are really ramping up in the last two months. After a busy October that features as much releases as the first four months of the format, we will have another busy month in November.
Warner just confirmed that the movie The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack when it’s released on Blu-ray on November 17th. One more to add to our potential list of movies with immersive audio !
Once it rains it pours right ? Another Atmos Blu-ray confirmed, now it’s Roger Waters The Wall, coming our way on December 1st from Universal Pictures. Keep them coming please !
