Ready Player One Coming On July 24 With Dolby Vision and Atmos

Sorry for the delay between updates as I had to travel for work.

Big site update today with first and foremost the confirmation that Ready: Player One will have both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos when it comes out on July 24 on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Rampage will also see light of day with both Dolby formats, but no confirmed date yet.

A lot of sites are reporting that Clear and Present Danger, The Hunt for Red October and The Sum of All Fears are coming on 4K Blu-ray, so I added those to the lists. The same goes for the initial Predator trilogy with Predator, Predator 2 and Predators.

I finally listed Solo and Deadpool 2 to the upcoming Atmos 4K discs, as those are pretty much sure.

Is DTS in trouble?

As I’m updating the site tonight, I noticed that at this time, there is absolutely no upcoming release on DTS:X. Nothing with or without a date pending release.

When we compare with the approximatively 20 titles still coming for Atmos, and the steady debit of news, it’s really starting to look grim for DTS:X on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Did the format arrive too late to the game? I think so. Considering the strong initial marketing with more features than Atmos, but the real implementation being more similar or actually in some cases more limited, it seems like a natural conclusion for the audio format war this time around.

With Dolby dominating on streaming too with Atmos and Dolby Digital+, we have to be afraid for the future of DTS.

What do you think? Do you expect things to change? I’m curious to hear your thoughts!

Tomb Raider coming with Dolby Vision and Atmos on Ultra HD Blu-ray

It’s been a slower week so far on the home theater front, but the big announcement is the confirmation that the new Tomb Raider movie will be released on UltraHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on June 12. The UHD version will feature Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.

The press release is a bit flaky regarding the 3D and Blu-ray releases, but based on previous Warner releases, it’s same to assume that the Atmos track will be on the Blu-ray release and not the 3D one. I’ll update you if this changes.

Also, the Western movie The Quick and The Dead will be released on UltraHD Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos on July 17.

Pacific Rim: Uprising coming to Ultra HD Blu-ray with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

Here’s some catching up after a week of not being able to update the blog, sorry for that.

First and foremost, Universal confirmed that Pacific Rim: Uprising is coming to Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The 4K version will also feature Dolby Vision.

In the Atmos news, the following titles have all been confirmed with Atmos: Annihilation (Blu-ray and 4K), Early Man (Blu-ray),  The Hurricane Heist(Blu-ray and 4K), A Wrinkle In Time (4K),  Dirty Grandpa 4K, The Equalizer (4K) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4K.

I did a big update to the lists on the site if you need to see what’s coming!

Black Panther coming May 15 with Dolby Vision and Atmos + All Mission Impossible coming to UHD Blu-ray

A big update today with the confirmation that Disney will release Black Panther on Ultra HD Blu-ray on May 15 with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.

Also, Paramount confirmed that the whole Mission: Impossible series would be arriving on Ultra HD Blu-ray on June 26. The first Jack Reached will also see a 4K release on that day.

On the sound side, both Forrest Gump and Red Sparrow have been confirmed to be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Finally, please note that Knowing and Push, that were released last week, both have Dolby Vision on their UHD releases. Grease, coming next week will also have DV.
