Sony Pictures just announced their new high quality classic films series on Blu-ray called the Supreme Cinema Series. The first film to be released in this line will be the 1993 movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula from director Francis Ford Coppola. The movie will feature a new 4K restoration and a brand new Dolby Atmos mix. It’s the first time that a catalog movie see a release with Dolby Atmos, one more proof of the growing strength of the format.
The movie will be released on October 6th. As usual, I updated the list of movies in Dolby Atmos on the site.
The release pace of Dolby Atmos movies on Blu-ray is accelerating in the last weeks, now it’s confirmed that the hottest title of the summer, Mad Max: Fury Road will be launched on Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos on September 1st. It will be available in both 2D and 3D editions.
Warner Brothers just announced that San Andreas, featuring Dwayne Johnson, will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack on Blu-ray when it is released on October 20th.
If you were looking for more content to watch in your shiny new Dolby Atmos receiver, look no more. HBO just announced that the first four seasons of the show will be released again on Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
The first two seasons will be available on November 3 while the other two seasons release date will be confirmed soon.
Now that’s a lot more hours of content to watch, which is refreshing during the drought of announcements we are going through right now.
After announcing in May that they would be one of the strong supporters of HDR and UHD Blu-ray, Fox followed suit recently by releasing their four first movies in Ultra HD resolution with HDR metadata.
The movies are first released through M-GO, the streaming / download movie service. You need a compatible 4K Samsung TV to download and watch those movies as the company as an exclusive contract for this service.
The four movies that are already released are Life of Pi, Kingman : The Secret Service, The Maze Runner and Exodus : Gods and Kings.
Could it be the first four UHD titles from Fox when the format release ? Only time will tell, but at least we are starting to see more and more content in 4K become available.
Lionsgate announced through a press release that the science-fiction movie Ex Machina will be released on July 14th with a DTS:X soundtrack, thus becoming the first movie announced what will feature the format.

Lionsgate confirmed today that the second movie in the Divergent series, Insurgent, will be available on August 4th with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack in both 2D and 3D editions.
As the saying go, when it rains (and it actually rains a lot here today) it pours. After the Onkyo announcement of DTS:X receivers this morning, the Blu-ray Disc Association announced today that the specifications for the new Ultra HD Blu-ray format are now final and they also released the new logo at the same time.
Onkyo just announced this morning their first two 2015 receivers to support the new upcoming DTS:X format (through a firmware upgrade to come later this year). The TX-NR646 and TX-NR747 will offer both 7 channels of amplification for a maximum setup of 5.1.2 speakers.
The other important information is that both will support HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 at the required bandwidth of 18 Gbps.
