Another release we knew was coming based on previous information from Europe, it’s now official : Minions will be offered with Dolby Atmos. The movie will be released December 8th on Blu-ray in both 3D and 2D editions featuring an Atmos sountrack.
As usual, I updated the list of Dolby Atmos Blu-rays on this site.
Lionsgate announced last week that the release of American Ultra on Blu-ray will feature a DTS:X soundtrack. The movie will be available from home theaters on November 24th and will become the second Blu-ray disc with DTS:X
Having said that, we must note that the latest news about DTS:X are saying that the format will not be released on AVRs before the beginning of next year or later. So it will not be possible to hear the movie at home in DTS:X for a while.
Note that as usual, I update the list of DTS:X movies on Blu-ray.
We were aware of this upcoming release for a while, but the official presse release just a week ago. We can now officially add Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation to the list of movies with Dolby Atmos. The movie will be available on December 15th.
As usual, the list of Dolby Atmos Blu-rays on this site has been updated.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment just announced that the action movie Pixels will be released on October 27th with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack in both 3D and 2D.
The release schedule for this fall is getting very interesting with a good quantity of new Dolby Atmos titles. We will have three titles released on October 27th, which is unseen since the initial launch. I updated, as usual, the list of Atmos titles on this site.
The 20th Century Fox just confirmed than they plan to release all of their new movies on home video to the 4K UltraHD Blu-ray format at the same time as the regular Blu-ray edition.
The first title to be released will be Kingsman : The Secret Service which offers us a first glimpse at the look of the boxes for this new physical format. As you can see, the title will also include Blu-ray and Digital Download, but no DVD copy. Which is good news in my mind as the format should start disappearing and we should stop paying for an unwanted disc. Talking about prices, they said the new titles should have an MRSP around 30 US dollars, not surprising for a new format.
No word yet on the technical details of the disc, the main question being if Fox will start working with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X as the movie was shown in cinema in Atmos.
Finally, Fox also confirmed other titles that will be also available on UltraHD Blu-ray soon after launch: Exodus: Gods and Kings, Fantastic Four, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Life of Pi, The Maze Runner and Wild.
Exciting times !
Please note I will add pictures as soon as official ones are available, as I don’t want to use the copyrighted content from the media sources.
It looks like it’s going to be an exciting week at IFA 2015 in Berlin, as Samsung just announced in their press conference this morning the upcoming UBD-K8500, their first UHD Blu-ray player.
They said the player would be available early in 2016 in Europe. Let’s see if they will be able to make it sooner so they can hit the Holiday period here. No official pricing announced either.
There’s not a lot to report about the player other than that right now, but they also discussed with Fox the plans to release all of the new movies in the format.
I’ll report as soon as other electronic companies announce their own player.
The pace of Dolby Atmos releases continue to increase as Warner Home Video announces the Blu-ray release of The Gallows on October 13th with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. This will become the first horror movie available in the home theater with an object-based sountrack.
As usual the list of Blu-rays with Dolby Atmos availble on the site has been updated.
Announced for November 10th 2015, the upcoming Blu-ray discs of Terminator Genisys will have a Dolby Atmos soundtrack in both it’s 2D and 3D editions.
This is again a good sign of Atmos releases pace increasing. We need to hope that Fox and Disney will join the movement soon, at least on UHD Blu-ray.
As usual, the list of Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos has been updated.
Sony Pictures just announced two more titles in their new Supreme Cinema Series, both from French director Luc Besson. The Fifth Element and Léon The Professional will both be released with a 1080P image from a new 4K remaster and will feature a newly mixed Dolby Atmos soundtrack. They will be available on October 27th.
This is great news for Dolby Atmos home theater owners as we can clearly sense the pace of releases increasing. This is of course helped by the release of those first catalog titles in the format.
Please note that seeing that a 4K remaster has been done for both it would not be surprising to quickly see those titles on UHD Blu-ray when it launches later this year.
As usual, the list of Dolby Atmos Blu-rays on the site has been updated.
