Disney Finally Announces It’s First Ultra HD Title + Multiple Other Announcements

Finally, more than a year after the launch of Ultra HD Blu-ray, Disney is joining the format, mostly thanks to Peter Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Disney’s first title will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 with Dolby Atmos included.

Alien: Covenant

The movie is now confirmed for an Ultra HD release, with a date to be confirmed.

The Mummy

The action movie starring Tom Cruise will be released with Dolby Atmos on both it’s Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray releases. The date is still to be confirmed.

Blade Runner

The Final Cut of the movie will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray on September 5 with Dolby Atmos audio.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

The movie will be released on August 8 with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack on both the Blu-ray and the Ultra HD Blu-ray editions.

 

The Cabin in the Woods

The movie will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray on September 5 with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.

 

 

Westworld : Season 1

The first TV series to be released in Ultra HD Blu-ray will feature a Dolby Atmos sountrack when it’s released on November 7. The soundtrack will also be available on the Blu-ray release of the show.

Van Helsing, Dracula Untold, Get Out

The catalog titles will all be released with a DTS:X remix on September 12.

Red and Red 2

The movies will both be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray on September 5 with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.

Kong: Skull Island, Ghost in the Shell and Boss Baby in Atmos, E.T. in DTS:X

Here are the latest announcements for Atmos, DTS:X and Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Ghost in the Shell

The Paramount Pictures movie starring Scarlet Johansson will be released on July 25 with a Dolby Atmos sountrack on it’s Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and Ultra HD Blu-ray editions.

Kong: Skull Island

The Warner movie will be released on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack on July 18. No confirmation yet if the 3D Blu-ray will have the Atmos track, I’ll try to let you know once confirmed.

Boss Baby

The DreamWorks animated movie will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack on its Ultra HD Blu-ray version once released on July 25.

 

Batman and Harley Quinn

The animated movie from Warner will be released on August 29 on Ultra HD Blu-ray. No word yet on the audio format.

E.T.

The Universal movie has been confirmed for Ultra HD Blu-ray with a DTS:X soundtrack for September 12.

Other Ultra HD Blu-ray titles confirmed

Some other titles were also confirmed for Ultra HD Blu-ray : Hickok on August 15, King Arthur: Legend of The Sword, Snatched, Baywatch and Wonder Woman.

Quick update with the news of the week on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

The Fate of the Furious

The 8th Furious movie will be released by Universal on Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on July 11 with a DTS:X soundtrack.

The Lincoln Lawyer

Strange catalog choice from Lionsgate, the movie will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray on August 15 with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Alien: Convenant

No date or any details yet, but the movie from Fox has been confirmed on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Plenty of New Dolby Atmos and UHD Blu-ray Titles

It seems that Dolby is continuing it’s landslide advantage on Ultra HD Blu-ray with a lot of new titles confirmed in the last couple of weeks.

Power Rangers

The action movie from Lionsgate has been confirmed on both Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. It will be released on June 27.

T2 Trainspotting

Not a lot of details are available yet on that Sony release, but at least we now know it will feature Dolby Atmos.

Resident Evil: Vendetta

The CG action movie from Sony will be released also with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack on Ultra HD Blu-ray. No details yet on timing.

Life

Another one confirmed with Atmos, no timing confirmed yet, but we should know real soon.

Smurfs: The Lost Village

Again, no surprise here, another Sony UHD title, again confirmed with Dolby Atmos. No release date yet.

Léon : The Professional

The title has been confirmed on Ultra HD Blu-ray and will be released on July 11 with Dolby Atmos.

Song to Song

The title from Broad Green Pictures will be released on July 4 on Ultra HD Blu-ray, this one without an object-based audio track.

Terminator: Genysis

The movie from Paramount has been confirmed for Ultra HD Blu-ray, no date confirmed yet.

Logan, Fate of the Furious and King Kong confirmed on UHD Blu-ray

Quick update for three new titles coming on Ultra HD Blu-ray in the upcoming months.

Logan

We already knew this Fox title was coming on the format on May 23, we now have confirmation that this will be with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Fate of the Furious

The latest Furious movie from Universal has been confirmed for Ultra HD Blu-ray, but no date or audio details yet.

King Kong (2005)

The Peter Jackson movie from Universal will get a brand new Ultra HD release on July 11 with a new DTS:X soundtrack.

Plenty of New Ultra HD Blu-rays announced

It’s been a good week for Ultra HD Blu-ray, here are the new releases announced or confirmed through retailer listings.

Snitch

The Lionsgate movie starring  Dwayne Johnson will be available on Ultra HD Blu-ray on June 6 with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Ex Machina

The science-fiction movie from Lionsgate will released also on June 6 in UHD Blu-ray and will retain its DTS:X soundtrack, as you remember it was the first Blu-ray to get be released on the format.

Dredd

The action movie, again from Lionsgate, will also be released on June 6 on Ultra-HD Blu-ray. In a stranger move, Lionsgate will release the title with Dolby Atmos while it was one of the rare Blu-rays to have DTS Neo:X encoding.

Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2, The

A new boxset will be released on June 13 by Sony with both movies in Ultra HD Blu-ray, which mean an initial release on the format for the first title of the series.

Other semi-confirmed titles

Based on announcements to retailers, it seems now confirmed that the following titles will be released later this year in Ultra HD Blu-ray.  In that list:

I’m sadly playing catchup a little bit here, but here are the last two weeks announcement on next generation home theater formats.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage

The movie from Paramount was now confirmed with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack on both the Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray editions, out on May 16.

Monster Trucks

Sadly the 4k release of the movie seems to have been cancelled at this point by Paramount, but at least the Blu-ray has been confirmed with Dolby Atmos on April 11.

The Great Wall

Both the Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray releases of the Universal Studios movie will come with Dolby Atmos when released on May 23.

La La Land

The almost movie of the year oscar winner from Lionsgate will get a Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray release in Dolby Atmos on April 25.

Fifty Shades Darker

The Universal movie will get a brand new DTS:X sountrack when released on May 9 on both Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Mummy Ultimate Trilogy

As I thought in my last post, it’s now official that the Universal Studios trilogy will get a DTS:X soundtrack for all three movies when released on May 16.

Despicable Me / Despicable Me 2

Both Universal animated movies will see a new Ultra HD release on June 6 both with a new DTS:X mix.

Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Both 20th Century Fox movies will see light of day on Ultra HD Blu-ray on May 9.
