Just a quick update to let you know that Sony Pictures will be releasing Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2 on Ultra HD Blu-ray, with a Dolby Atmos remix, this September.
Also, Rampage is now dated for release on July 17, as we already knew the 4K disc will feature Dolby Vision and Atmos, while the Blu-ray will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.
Sorry for the delay between updates as I had to travel for work.
Big site update today with first and foremost the confirmation that Ready: Player One will have both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos when it comes out on July 24 on Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Rampage will also see light of day with both Dolby formats, but no confirmed date yet.
A lot of sites are reporting that Clear and Present Danger, The Hunt for Red October and The Sum of All Fears are coming on 4K Blu-ray, so I added those to the lists. The same goes for the initial Predator trilogy with Predator, Predator 2 and Predators.
I finally listed Solo and Deadpool 2 to the upcoming Atmos 4K discs, as those are pretty much sure.
As I’m updating the site tonight, I noticed that at this time, there is absolutely no upcoming release on DTS:X. Nothing with or without a date pending release.
When we compare with the approximatively 20 titles still coming for Atmos, and the steady debit of news, it’s really starting to look grim for DTS:X on Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Did the format arrive too late to the game? I think so. Considering the strong initial marketing with more features than Atmos, but the real implementation being more similar or actually in some cases more limited, it seems like a natural conclusion for the audio format war this time around.
With Dolby dominating on streaming too with Atmos and Dolby Digital+, we have to be afraid for the future of DTS.
What do you think? Do you expect things to change? I’m curious to hear your thoughts!
It’s been a pretty quiet week, the most important news being that The Incredibles is now confirmed for an Ultra HD Blu-ray release for June 5 with a Dolby Atmos remixed track.
In other news, The Death of Superman anim 4K release is confirmed for August 7 and on the same date we’ll be getting a 4k release of both G.I. Joe live action movies.
It’s been a slower week so far on the home theater front, but the big announcement is the confirmation that the new Tomb Raider movie will be released on UltraHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on June 12. The UHD version will feature Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.
The press release is a bit flaky regarding the 3D and Blu-ray releases, but based on previous Warner releases, it’s same to assume that the Atmos track will be on the Blu-ray release and not the 3D one. I’ll update you if this changes.
Also, the Western movie The Quick and The Dead will be released on UltraHD Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos on July 17.
Impressions about 4K Blu-ray, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and more
